WASHINGTON  – On Thursday, July 28, 2022, at 10 am ET, the U.S. House Select Committee on Economic Disparity and Fairness in Growth, chaired by Congressman Jim Himes (CT-04), hosted a hearing focused on analyzing the efficiency of current programs that offer vital economic support to Americans enduring hardship.

This bipartisan hearing, "Building a Modern Economic Foundation: Economic Security and Income Support for 21st Century America," brought Select Committee members and subject matter experts together to discuss the benefits of programs like the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC), Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) and Unemployment Insurance (UI). Members also reviewed how these programs functioned during the height of the national crisis of the COVID-19 pandemic and lessons learned from implementation of pandemic-related income support programs. Lastly, experts and Members examined innovative solutions to modernize current and future income support programs to better serve all Americans and keep pathways to economic opportunity open
